Recently we received a 35 cubic foot mix bed deionizer from one of our clients in the power industry. The vessel arrived frozen. During standard inspection we discovered a crack in the outlet assembly right behind the flange. This could have caused expensive media loss. With this, we removed the media and disassembled the internals, and then were able to machine out the broken piece and add a coupling. The vessel was reassembled, the media was regenerated and a pressure test was performed to ensure the process was a success.
Typically, damage like this can take weeks to repair; we had the vessel back in service and shipped to our client within 48 hours.
